Founded in 1958, NFREU has been at the forefront of negotiating better wages, improved working conditions, healthcare facilities, and pension reforms for railway employees and their families.

Our mission remains clear — to protect the rights and welfare of every railway worker, to ensure their dignity, and to build a stronger, more unified workforce for modern India.

History

Our Journey

Five decades of relentless service to India's railway workforce.

1958

Foundation

North Frontier Railway Employees Union (NFREU) was established following the creation of the Northeast Frontier Railway Zone on 15 January 1958, with headquarters at Maligaon, Guwahati.

1960s

Organizational Growth

NFREU expanded across various divisions of Northeast Frontier Railway, strengthening employee representation and welfare initiatives.

1980s

Employee Welfare Movement

Successfully advocated for improved working conditions, staff welfare measures, housing facilities, and service benefits for railway employees.

1990s

Strengthening Employee Rights

Played an active role in national-level discussions on pay revisions, pension benefits, and service conditions through NFIR.

2000s

Modernization Era

Engaged with Railway Administration on modernization projects while safeguarding employee interests during organizational changes.

2010s

Safety & Welfare Initiatives

Promoted workplace safety, employee welfare programs, skill development, and infrastructure improvements across NFR divisions.

2022

37th Biennial General Meeting

Successfully conducted the 37th Biennial General Meeting at Katihar, bringing together representatives from all NFR divisions.

Secret Ballot Participation
